3 Baby Steps Towards a Greener Life

"Going green" seems like a great idea, but where do you start? I would venture to say that most people would love to live greener lives, but feel overwhelmed with the information overload and therefore give up before starting.

Enter: 3 steps to start you on your little green way, and they won't cost you a dime but just might save you some!

The 3 Step Program:

Start using cold water while doing laundry.
According to about.com: heating the water to wash clothes amounts to 90% of the washing machine's power consumption. So by using cold water, not only do you save energy, you save on your electric bill!

Start saving your pickle jars and use them as tupperware.
Pickle jars and other glass containers make great storage for leftovers. I know it feels very awkward to put leftover spaghetti in a old {cleaned out} pickle jar, but it works! Plastic is bad for the environment, so start keeping and using those glass containers. A few examples: peanut butter jars, pickle jars, applesauce jars, etc.

Start reusing plastic baggies
I admit this one is a bit of a pain. Who wants to wash out plastic baggies?! But think of how many plastic baggies you go through in a month. Start small...wash and keep one, then throw the next one away. I wash mine in the sink. I put a dab of soap in it and rinse. Then I let it air dry on my dish rack.

There you have it, 3 steps to start you on your green journey!

Here's to happy and healthy cleaning!
