What makeup we use can be a touchy subject! Many women are very loyal to their brands, and rightly so.

However, many ingredients found in big named brands are toxic and can cause health problems. You may think makeup is only skin deep. But, in actuality, many skin care products are absorbed into our bloodstream and body.

I scoured several websites, including safercosmetics.org and ewg.org and found:

My top 3 Toxic Makeup Ingredients to Avoid

Butylated Hydroxyanisole or BHA/BHT

BHA/BHT is used as a preservative in makeup and other skin care products.

Health concerns include: endocrine disruption, organ-system toxicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, cancer and general skin irritation

It's commonly found in: lip products, makeup and sunscreen

Benzophenone

Benzophenone is used as a fragrance enhancer and/or to help prevent products from losing their scent and color.

Heath concerns include: cancer, endocrine disruption, developmental and reproductive toxicity, organ system toxicity and general skin irritation

It's commonly found in: lip balm, nail polish, foundations, baby sunscreens, moisturizers and foundation

Fragrance

"Fragrance" can be comprised of 3,059 different materials, including formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen, and butoxyethanol, a reproductive toxicant.

Health concerns include: cancer, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, asthma and migraines.

It's commonly found in: most makeup and skin care products.

Stay tuned for a few quality makeup brands that use all natural ingredients and I trust!
