Why Go Green?

First of all, I am sorry I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks. I have been working on updating my Etsy store. If you get a chance, check it out and tell me what you think! Now on with the show…

I first became interested in “going green” when I was 3 months pregnant with Sleeping Beauty. I had never really thought about it before. However, like most new moms, I wanted the best for this new little life growing in my belly. Plus, I knew that raising children can be pricey, and I wanted to start trying new ways to save money. So I thought I’d look into it. The first book I read on the subject was Do It Gorgeously, by Sophie Uliano. {I highly recommend this book. It is filled with lots of info and great recipes!}

And so began my green journey, which has really become a passion for me. The more research I do, the more passionate I become about living a more natural lifestyle. “Going green” isn’t just for tree huggers or fanatics who worship Mother Earth. It’s for everyday people like you and me. It begins with a mindset change and ends up as a lifestyle change.

Ponder these thoughts:

Why can’t we eat lotion? It goes on our skin, which absorbs it and thus enters our bodies.

How much nourishment can we really get from a fast-food hamburger?

Have you read the ingredients on your shampoo bottle?

On a deeper note…

As humans, God has entrusted us to take care of the things He has given us, namely the earth and all it’s inhabitants. (see Genesis 1:28 and 9:2). Shouldn’t we be the  biggest tree huggers?

God has also entrusted us with our bodies. Shouldn’t we be good stewards of them by looking into what products we put on them and what is in the food we are feeding them?

My green journey has spanned over 2 years, and I’m still on it. It has caused me to be more aware of the products I use to clean my home and use on my family. It has also helped me realize the importance of eating real food, as opposed to pre-packaged meals {or fast food}.

If you’re starting down your green road, remember to take baby steps. It is so easy to take in all this information and get overwhelmed with trying to change everything.

And most of all, enjoy your journey!

And PS – I still love Diet Coke and use store bought shampoo, so by no means have I arrived!

PS..S –Here is a clip of the Oprah show on household cleaner that is worth watching.
